Honestly I think its a cheap way out. They will suffer WAY more inside a small cell for the rest of their life. As our mothers used to say (or at least mine) two wrongs dont make a right.

Only problem with that is drain on resources. But that is why prisons have made programs for inmates to contribute to society in one form or another.
